Ram and PSU presentations: BOOM! POW! K-RAM! (and PSU) - Kien

 RAM Presentations:

You’ve probably heard of RAM before from someone tech-savvy or complaining about their computer's slowness. But what is RAM? Well, essentially we learned that it’s the computer’s short-term storage or memory. It stores data quickly and allows the computer to load applications without buffering on a loading screen for hours. Let's say you opened a window and googled “Cute cat photos” then you opened another window and googled “Cute dog photos” Ram is the reason why you’re able to open both windows without closing one. Googling “Cute cat photos” stored the prompt as data in the memory, this means you can re-open the window without the computer needing to reload it.

We learned that there are three types of RAM: SRAM, DRAM, and Flash-Ram. SRAM is directly connected to the CPU, it is fast and compact, but, the price range for it is very high. DRAM on the other hand is larger and slower than SRAM however this makes it a lot cheaper and easier to get. Both SRAM and DRAM are volatile, meaning it requires constant power to keep data. Finally, there’s Flash-Ram which is a Non-Volatile form of storage, because of this it is used for long-term storage. You might know this one from USB drives and unlike the other types, it is mounted directly onto the motherboard. There are countless options for whatever computer build you’re looking for between all three of these.

Power supply Presentations:

Something we needed to remember when building our PCs is the power supply (duh, I mean computers need A LOT of power to function). These are important because you can't just plug your computer directly into the wall, as the actual PC parts need a different type of power than the one found in your outlet. To cope with this the power supply uses three conversions to turn your outlet power into power for your PC. The regular electrical waves from the outlet are fed into the transformer which lowers the voltage, they are then led to the rectifier which smooths out the waves and makes them move in one direction, your electrical waves are now ready for powering your PC! There are two types of power supply, Non-Modular, and Modular, Non-modular has a fixed amount of cables while Modular has custom amounts.
